Public transport in Kraków

The public transport operator in Kraków is the City Transport Company – Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacyjne S.A. (MPK) Kraków. The trams are usually painted blue (the colours of the city of Kraków). It is worth pointing out that the first stagecoach drawn by horses began its everyday courses in 1875, the first regular narrow-gauge horse tram line was established in 1882 and an electrical tram line – as soon as in 1901.

The first tram line to Nowa Huta (new, industrial district of Kraków) was opened in 1952. In that same year, on June 27th, the last tram crossed the Main Market Square – from that date on trams only circulated the Old Town along the Planty park, just as they do today.

At present, public transport in Kraków consists of several dozen tram and bus lines that run on both day and night routes.
